Early neuropsychological markers of cognitive involvement in multiple sclerosis

چکیده
Background Cognitive impairment due to multiple sclerosis (MS) is common and often limits occupational functioning, contributes disability, reduces quality of life. Early detection cognitive involvement in MS critical for treatment planning intervention, frequent, regular monitoring may provide insight into subtle changes disease progression. Objective To compare the sensitivity specificity clinical, computer-based experimental measures early MS. Methods functioning was compared participants course matched healthy controls using conventional, functional assessments: Brief International Assessment (BICAMS); Cogstate Battery (CBB); Attention Network Test-Interaction (ANT-I), including intra-individual variability; Test Everyday Ability (TECA), a measure instrumental activities daily living. Results (n = 25, mean duration= 5.82 ± 3.65 years) demographically 29) completed assessments. The choice reaction time (AUC 0.73, p .004), variability on ANT-I 0.79, .001), TECA 0.78, .001) scores were most sensitive specific markers Conclusions Brief, repeatable, detect associated involvement.

Neuropsychological syndromes in multiple sclerosis.
BACKGROUND Cognitive impairment in multiple sclerosis (MS) is common (45-65%).Deficits occur in speed of information processing (SIP), memory, attention, executive functions (EF) and visuoconstruction.Involvement of cognitive functions like language and gnosis is rare and lesser known. Our aim is to describe the cognitive function and the clinical and radiological features of five patients with...
متن کاملMultiple Sclerosis Cognitive Impairment in Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory demyelinating disorder of the central nervous system. Although MS has been known since the 19th century, cognitive impairment (CI) was only recognised as an important feature of MS over the past 30 years. The reason is that, until recently, MS was perceived exclusively as a white matter disease, and cognition was thought to depend solely on the ...

OBJECTIVE To determine MRI predictors for cognitive outcome in patients with early relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (MS). METHODS Forty-four patients recently diagnosed with clinically definite MS were followed up with clinical and cognitive evaluations at 1, 2, 5, and 7 years and underwent brain MRI including magnetization transfer (MT) imaging at baseline and 2 years. Cognitive evalua...

Objective To investigate whether the strength of the association between magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) metrics and cognitive outcomes differs between various multiple sclerosis subpopulations. Methods A total of 1052 patients were included in this large cross-sectional study. Brain MRI (T1 and T2 lesion volume and brain parenchymal fraction) and neuropsychological assessment (Brief Interna...
متن کاملPredicting neuropsychological abnormalities in multiple sclerosis.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is associated with MRI signal alteration and neuropsychological (NP) dysfunction. Screening tools have been developed to identify patients at high risk for these neurological complications of MS. One such measure, the Multiple Sclerosis Neuropsychological Screening Questionnaire (MSNQ), has well-established reliability and predictive validity. In this article, we report ...
